DESCRIPTION
Pure Bliss throws virtuosic sonic overload, electronic glitch, loops and an absurdist flair into one gloriously unruly mix.
Pure Bliss hurtles between moments of deep serenity and bursts of sonic ecstasy. Expect warped voices, playful electronics, hyperactive rhythms, unexpected sounds and music that refuses to behave itself - music to make you feel everything.
Pure Bliss features new Australian and international works, including a piano concerto by Matthew Shlomowitz with soloist Ronan Apcar, and Liz Jigalin performing Mark Applebaum’s iconic Aphasia - a fantastical collision of performer, tape and theatrical absurdity. Australian premieres by Sara Glojnarić and Ben Nobuto bring an exhilarating rush of sound, colour and sensation to this ecstatic celebration of new music.
For added zing, join us for the pre-concert talk, where you can delve deeper into the music, ideas and questions behind this blissfully alive new music that we love.
Come ready for maximum sensory expansion, unexpected delights, sonic mischief and a perpetual state of unseriousness.
Because the Future is Bliss.
“New York’s oversaturated audiences can be hard to impress but EO more than made its mark.”
“Here is EO at its most adventurous and its strongest, with sharply-refined performing chops to follow through on its ambitious programmatic swing.”
“A suite of compositions that look to the elemental forces of nature to prophesy the future lies at the heart of Ensemble Offspring’s biggest and boldest program of the season”
“The electronics were fresh, live and responsive, and the music condensed far-out ideas into something not only listenable, but thrilling to watch, complemented by a dazzling light show.”
“Ensemble Offspring deserves its reputation of leading the performance of new music in Sydney. They are ever willing to try new works, and to commission them. They perform with joy, enthusiasm and great skill.”
