ENSEMBLE OFFSPRING
TO LISTEN TO SING

To Listen To Sing features an array of composers from the past ten years of Ngarra-Burria: First Peoples Composers which has built bridges for Indigenous musicians to step sideways into instrumental chamber composition, completely changing the Australian landscape of art music composers and importantly giving a new voice to First Nations composers.
To Listen To Sing, features a quartet of flute, clarinet, cello and percussion and while not featuring the composers themselves on stage, shines the spotlight on a whole raft of brand new music by brand new First Nations voices and is a true celebration of an enmeshing of western art music and the oldest surviving culture on earth.

To Listen Sing Album
Critical Acclaim
★★★★1⁄2 “The fruits of the enterprise are heard here in performances by Ensemble Offspring, that splendid Sydney-based band led by Claire Edwardes... In time, this album and its successors may become historic, as much for their origins as for the quality and appeal of the performances of music in which all Australians might take pride.”
— The Australian
★★★★1⁄2 “First Nations composers have been given their own voice in a superb album jointly enabled by the Ngarra-Burra artist development program and ground-breaking Sydney group Ensemble Offspring.”
— Limelight
“The sheer diversity of styles, some incorporating jazz, percussion, repetitive and vocal elements, ensures variety and attraction. In fragments of melodies and rhythms, its origins are barely hinted at, indicating the success of this visionary project. In time, this album and its successors may become historic, as much for their origins as for the quality and appeal of the performances of music in which all Australians might take pride.”
